What we come out for

RCD tripping every time
Often the immersion heater element or a shower, sometimes water in an outside socket. We split the board, test each circuit and find which one is putting the fault to earth.
No power at all
If the neighbours have power, the fault is inside. We check the main switch, the tails and the board. If it is the supply fuse or the meter, that belongs to your network operator and we tell you who to ring.
Half the flat is dead
One MCB has gone and will not stay in. Usually a damaged accessory on the ring or a nail through a cable after somebody put a shelf up.
Burnt smell or scorched socket
Switch the circuit off and stop using it. A loose terminal arcing behind a socket face is the common cause. We replace the accessory and check the rest of the circuit for the same.
Failed shower or cooker switch
Pull-cord switches in bathrooms burn out at the contacts. We fit a correctly rated replacement and test it.
Electrics after a leak
Water into a ceiling rose or a downlight. We isolate, dry out or replace what is affected, and test before anything is put back into service.

What we do when we arrive

Isolate, test, find the circuit at fault, then price the repair with you before we do it. No additional work begins until the problem has been assessed and you have agreed the work and the cost.

Before we get there

Switch off the circuit that trips rather than resetting it again and again. Unplug what was in use when it went — kettle, washing machine, shower — because that alone often identifies the fault. If you can see burning or exposed conductors, leave the property and call 999.

What it costs

The call-out charge is £70, confirmed with you before we set off. No additional work begins until the problem has been assessed and you have agreed the work and the cost. See the guide price.

What we do not do

No gas appliance work. No building work, plastering or decorating to make good after a repair.

Also see emergency plumbing and cover for landlords.
